House of Detention: Traditional Herringbone Flooring in a Historic Clerkenwell Residence

The House of Detention, a residential project in the historic Clerkenwell area, saw the transformation of a significant building into a contemporary living space. In 2018, we were commissioned to install traditional herringbone flooring throughout the property, blending the historic charm of the building with modern design elements.

The light oak herringbone floors beautifully complemented both the building’s rich history and the modern touches introduced during its redevelopment. Large windows flooded the rooms with natural light, enhancing the spacious and airy feel. In several rooms, the seamless integration of matching walls, ceilings, and floors brought a fresh, modern twist to the traditional format, further accentuated by the soft tones of the oak floors.
