Reclaimed Wood Sculpture – London Design Festival 2019
We were proud to complete this striking interactive sculpture for the 2019 London Design Festival, located in Finsbury Avenue Square, at the heart of Broadgate—a dynamic London district where innovation meets finance.
An Interactive Public Art Installation Using Reclaimed Materials
The sculpture was constructed from 1,152 reclaimed scaffold boards and poles, carefully selected to meet both the aesthetic vision and structural requirements of an interactive public installation. Each board was meticulously planed, sanded, and cut to form flowing curves and concentric circles, transforming utilitarian materials into a graceful ribbon of wood that offered both seating and shelter.
What made this project unique was the challenge of reimagining everyday industrial materials into a sculptural form that was not only visually impactful, but also fully functional and accessible. The final result was an inviting, organic structure that encouraged public interaction while engaging with themes of sustainability, reuse, and urban design.
Global Reach and Lasting Impact
Due to its success at the London Design Festival, the sculpture and its innovative construction method have since been replicated in China and Hong Kong using our original design and methodology. A scaled-down version is currently on permanent display at Kew Gardens, continuing to showcase the potential of reclaimed materials in contemporary design.
